“Anthem: For a Warm Little Pond” is an elegant confirmation of the revelatory power of a considered meditation on place. To paraphrase Blake, Betcher sees a world in a lily pad on a small pond in Maine. With an eye attuned equally for abstract beauty and natural description, Betcher’s photography rewards repeated study. Like the lily pads he venerates, Anthem rests confortably upon the deep waters of the long American tradition of transcendent naturalists, poets, and artists.
